One day, I received an email from UC Berkeley’s Independent Newspaper Daily Californian to write an Op-Ed piece about a pressing issue or something I cared about. With the recent mass shootings both in public spaces and schools alike, I decided to submit an opinion piece about the lack of UC Berkeley’s on-campus security and university’s inappropriate use of funds.
For three years, I pitched and wrote articles for Fresh U, an online publication for college students and partnered with Teen Vogue. From Berkeley protests and maintaining long distance friendships to interviewing political meme pages and researching Mark Zuckerberg’s Congress Testimony, my work at Fresh U was challenging but provided a foundation for my writing and communication skills. I had the opportunity to communicate with a team nationwide, uphold strict deadlines, and work on articles for my peers that aligned with my passion of entertainment and politics.
